(On the 1871 census the enumerator stopped at this house in Alcester Street before the end of district 6) On the 1881 census they lived at 37 Alcester street but no numbers stated on 1871 census but seems to be at that number along the street. On the 1861 census they lived in Alcester Street but no numbers stated on the early census. In the 1870 Kelly’s Directory Allen was classed as Beer Retailer, Alcester Street.

Notes: Wife Anna Louisa (60) plus 2 daughters + 1 boarder + 1 servant at home. (On the 1881 census the enumerator stopped at this house before going on to 1 Queen Street) On the 1871 census they lived in Alcester Street but no number stated. In Jones’s 1865 Mercantile Directory of the Iron District of South Staffordshire and East Worcestershire Allan is classed as Allan Chas., Grocer &c., Plumber and Glazier, Alcester Street. In the 1873 Littlebury’s Directory and Gazetteer Allan is under Wine Merchant’s Agents, Alcester Street, also classed as Grocer in another section. In the 1876 & 1880 Kelly’s Directories Allen was Grocer in Alcester Street. Allan died 17th March 1889 in Crabbs Cross where he was living at this time.

In the 1900, 1904 & 1908 Kelly’s Directory Henry is classed as Drysalter & Confectioner.
