In the 1912 Kelly’s Directory there is a Mrs. Lizzie Smith, Hairdresser, 27 Alcester Street.

In the 1928 & 1932 and Kelly’s Directory Edith was classed as Deputy Registrar of Births and Deaths for Tardebigge Sub District, 28 Alcester Street. She was classed as (Miss) in the 1928 Directory and then (Mrs) in 1932 & 1940 Directory.

On the 1871 census Maria is now a widow and lived in Alcester Street but no number stated but have put her at 29 Alcester Street as she was at that number on the 1881 census. On the 1851 census they lived in Beoley Street, Redditch (which on later census seems to become Alcester Street). In the 1855 Billing’s Directory & Gazetteer John was Grocer, Beer Retailer, Rising Sun, Alcester Street which was 29. In the 1860 Post Office Directory John was a Beer Retailer and Grocer, Alcester Street. In the Jones’s 1865 Mercantile Directory of the Iron District of South Staffordshire and East Worcestershire John was classed as John Guest, Grocer, Tobacconist and ale and porter merchant, Alcester Street. John was the licensee of the “Rising Sun” 1841-1864.

On the 1861 census Maria is married to John and lived in Alcester Street but no numbers stated on this census. In the 1870 Kelly’s Directory Maria is classed as Grocer, Alcester Street. Maria was the licensee of the “Rising Sun” 1866-1884.

Notes: Maria had 1 son + 1 niece at home. On the 1871 census Maria was living in Alcester Street but no number stated and she seemed to be a Grocer. In the 1870 Kelly’s Directory Maria is classed as Grocer, Alcester Street. Maria died 16th December 1885 in Alcester Street. Maria was the licensee of the “Rising Sun” 1866-1884. Her son George was the licensee in 1887 and he was also a Grocer.

Notes: Had 1 daughter at home. On the census the “Rising Sun” was classed as “Beehive Inn”. Henry was the Licensee of the “Rising Sun” 1888-1892. On the 1881 census he was living with his wife Caroline and they lived in Ipsley Street, Redditch. At the time of Henry’s death 22nd October 1892 he was living at the “Rising Sun”, Alcester Street.
