Was James Briggs

Notes: Wife Sarah (35) plus 4 children (which included Thomas 14, who would later be a Butcher in Evesham Street on the 1861 census but no numbers stated on early census and James (10) who would later be a Butcher at 8 Evesham Street) + 1 male servant at home. On later census James and Sarah lived in Ipsely Street and James was a Butcher. In the 1842 Bentley’s Directory of Worcestershire James was a Butcher in Evesham Street. In the 1855 Billing’s Directory and Gazetteer there was a James Briggs classed as a Butcher in Evesham Street and also a Thomas Briggs, Butcher and Dealer, in Evesham Street, possibly their sons. In the 1860 Post Office Directory it seems James Briggs Senior was a Butcher Tann House Farm. In the 1870 Kelly’s Directory there was a James Briggs who was a Butcher and Farmer in Evesham Street & Tan House Farm. James died in 1874.

They seem to be at the same address on the 1851 census but no numbers stated on census. In the 1842 Bentley’s Directory of Worcestershire Vol. 1 and William was Shoemaker, Evesham Street. In the 1850 Slater’s Directory of Worcestershire William was classed under Boot and Shoe Maker, Evesham Street.
