Notes:         Wife Ann (23) + 1 servant at home. On the census it didn’t stated which Pub or number of street they lived at but Thomas was the licensee of the “Red Lion” in 1854. (At the rear of this old pub stood, for many years, what must have been one of Redditch’s major landmarks – The “Malt House” – built in the mid 1700’s. Its outbuildings became the Rifle Volunteers Drill Hall and eventually a theatre, “The New Theatre Assembly Rooms”, “Red Lion Inn”, was flourishing in the 1830’s, known as the “Lion Big Room”, it was used by visiting theatricals and local amateurs alike. – information from “Old Redditch Pubs” by Alan Foxall) The Pub’s license was withdrawn on 1st May 1937.
