Notes:         Wife Mary (58) plus 1 daughter + 4 step-children + 1 visitor at home. James was the licensee of the “Red Lion” 1860-1886. His wife Mary was the licensee 1887-1890. (On the 1881 census the enumerator came to this house after 12 Red LIon Arch and then after this house went to Red LIon Yard) On the 1871 census they lived at the “Red Lion Inn”. In the 1870 Kelly’s Directory James was at the “Red Lion”, Red Lion Street. In the 1872 Post Office Directory James was at the “Red Lion”, Red Lion Street. In the 1884 Kelly’s Directory James is at the “Red Lion”, Red Lion Street. James died 19th August 1886 at the “Red Lion”. In the 1888 Kelly’s Directory Mary was now classed as being at the “Red Lion” Red Lion Street.
