Notes:         Alfred Smith was the Proprietor. and the licensee 1912-1936. The 1924 Kelly’s Directory had an entry for Amalgamated Society of Brassworkers ( F. Hill, Secretary) Headquarters Royal Hotel, Market Place. Another entry in the Directory had Excelsior Oddfellows’ Friendly Society ( J. Edgar Bradshaw, secretary) Royal Hotel. Also an entry for Redditch Football Club (R. W. Michie secretary, Royal Hotel). Another entry in the Directory stated Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (Surrey Banner) Grand Lodge head quarters, Royal Hotel. On the 1911 census an Alfred Smith was Beer House Keeper at the “Waggon Horses”, Beoley Road, Redditch and licensee 1901-1912 who had sons Alfred and Ernest.
