On the 1861 census he lived with his mother Betsy and brother William (19) who was a Bootmaker (but on later census became a Wesleyan Minister in Newton all Saints, Lancashire), in Peakman Street and at this time Walter was a Needle Straightener. On the 1851 census Walter lived with his parents William and Betsy in Edward Street and Walter was a Needle Scourer and his father William was a Needle Scourer too. In the 1870, 1872 & 1876 Kelly’s Directory Walter was classed as Boot & Shoe Maker in Evesham Street.
