On the 1861 census Thomas lived with his parents Thomas and Susannah Haines nee Hollington (sister of William Hollington and aunt to Frederick Hollington, Drapers of 21 Evesham Street) in Adelaide Street. In the 1873 Littlebury’s Directory and Gazetteer Thomas was classed as Tailor, Outfitter, Hatter and Woollen Draper, 38 and 40 Evesham Street.
