On the 1891 census Richard lived in Park Road and was a Manufacturers Clerk. In the 1873 Littlebury’s Directory and Gazetteer Richard was classed as Grocer & Provisions Dealer, Evesham Street. In the 1884 Kelly’s Directory he was classed as Bacon Curer of 71 Evesham Street. In the 1888 Kelly’s Directory there was a John Thornton, Pharmacetical Chemist at this address. Richard Gibbs died 4th May 1907 at the Smallwood Hospital..
