Notes: Wife Susan (42) plus 1 son Joseph (19) assisting in the Inn + 1 niece + 1 visitor + 2 servants + 4 lodgers at home. Hugh was the Licensee of the “Fox & Goose” 1875-1883. On the 1871 census Hugh was the Licensed Victualler of the Unicorn Tap, Unicorn Hill. The Unicorn Tap was a small building separated from the Unicorn Hotel by an enclosed yard. In the 1872 Post Office Directory Hugh was at the Fleece Inn, Evesham Street and he was the licensee 1872-1875. In the 1873 Littlebury’s Directory and Gazetteer Hugh was a Fly Proprietor (A Fly is 1 horse 2 wheeled carriage) at the Fleece Inn, Evesham Street. On earlier census the “Fox & Goose” and Market Place itself was classed as Chapel Green. In the 1880 Kelly’s Directory Hugh was classed as being at the “Fox & Goose” Market Place. At the time of his death 12th January 1883 he was living at the “Fox and Goose” and classed as Hotel Keeper.
