Property: Unknown Beoley Street ln year: 1851

Occupant: William Merry aged:  48  Born:  Redditch

Trade: Needle Scourer –

Notes: Wife Hannah (Watkins) (50) plus 4 working children + 1 younger child at home. (On the 1861 census Beoley Street became Alcester Street) On the 1841 census they lived in Chapel Green East and William seemed to be a Grocer then. In the 1828 Pigot’s Directory of Worcestershire, William was classed as Shopkeeper, Redditch. In the 1835 Pigot’s Directory of Worcestershire William was classed as Glass & China Dealer, Redditch. In the 1842 Pigot’s Directory of Worcestershire, William was classed as Grocers & Dealers in Sundries and there was a William and Thomas Merry classed as being in Alcester Street. On the 1851 census William is classed as being in Beoley Street but in the Directories he is classed as being in Alcester Street, the street seems to be one and the same as no mention of Alcester Street on 1841 & 1851 census but Beoley Street has several of the people who in the Directories are classed as being in Alcester Street, quite confusing. In the 1850 Slater’s Directory of Worcestershire William is classed as being China, Glass, &c Dealers, Alcester Street. William died in 1852.
