On the 1861 census they lived in Red Lion Street but no numbers stated on the early census. In the Jones’s 1865 Mercantile Directory of the Iron District of South Staffordshire and East Worcestershire just stated that James lived in Red Lion Street.In the 1870 Kelly’s Directory James was classed as Beer Retailer and Shopkeeper. In the 1870 Post Office Directory James was classed as Beer Retailer and Shopkeeper. In the 1872 Kelly’s Directory, James was classed as Shopkeeper, Red Lion Street. In the 1873 Littlebury’s Directory and Gazetteer James was classed as Beer Retailer, Dairyman and Shopkeeper, Red Lion Street.
